Take a Breath of Fresh Air

3 February 2024

A Festival on Sustainability

10.00 am – 4.30 pm

St Philip & St James’ Church,

Leckhampton, Cheltenham, GL50 2DL

2024 Festival Highlights

Now in its third year, From the Ground Up presents a one-day festival on sustainability.

Our aim is to inform and encourage residents to explore more about how they can make a difference in their home, business/work, lifestyle choices, community and globally. The Festival concept has proved to be engaging, interactive and fun.

The central theme for 2024 will be AIR.  The impact of pollution and increased carbon emissions; how it is changing the Earth and the world in which we live.   And, also the hopeful news about what is being done to mitigate the damage and potentially create a better, cleaner environment in which to live. This will encompass clean space for health and wellbeing, technological initiatives, our lifestyle choices and urban solutions.  In brief, an opportunity for all to meet, chat with and listen to those from a diversity of organisations who have a link around the theme.

With participants and speakers throughout the day, it is a unique opportunity for visitors to engage with and, find out more about what is happening, both locally and further afield, discuss options and be inspired to make positive decisions for a more sustainable way of living.

All this will be free to the visitor!

Business & Organisations

Showcasing local and regional companies and organisations who are either offering sustainable and green products or services for the public benefit and purchase or through their practices supporting and/or effecting change to create a more sustainable environment.   It is an opportunity for them to demonstrate what they are doing and the impact of making these sustainable decisions are on our local and global community -  essentially, how we can reduce our impact on resources at all levels.

Charities & Not for Profit

We all know how vulnerable our Earth is and charities are critical in getting that message out: people doing their bit,  from wildlife friendly plants in the garden, buying seasonally, locally, actively connecting with, and protecting, the natural world around us, inspiring our children’s future through education and career choices, making impactfull lifestyle choices and being informed about  our local council’s strategy to implement effective changes now and, in the longer-term.

Talks

The Festival has become known for holding interesting and diverse speakers hosting talks on the theme of that year.  We aim to create a thoughtful and uplifting environment for discussion and potential action.  In 2024, there will be designated “Seed Talks” to inspire a community momentum for change.
